North-west of Plymouth’s city centre, Ford developed during the Victorian era as part of the city’s expanding suburbs. The neighbourhood sits roughly 1.6 miles from the heart of Plymouth, wedged between Milehouse to the south-east and Keyham to the north-west. Its Victorian terraces and residential character reflect the period of its establishment, marking an important phase in Plymouth’s growth beyond its medieval core.
From 1890 until 1964, Ford railway station served the area, connecting residents to the wider city and beyond. The closure of the station marked the end of an era for local rail transport, though the neighbourhood itself has continued as a residential community within Devon’s largest city.
