Devonport Park lies on former military land in Devonport, Plymouth, Devon, and its origins stretch back to the 1850s. The park holds a Grade II listed status, recognised for its historical character and the monuments preserved within its boundaries.
War Memorial and Historic Monuments
Among the most significant features of the park is a war memorial dedicated to the roughly 2,000 Devonport residents who lost their lives during the First World War. Several other historic monuments are scattered across the grounds, reflecting the area’s long connection to military life.
The Hidden Railway Tunnel
Below the park runs a disused railway tunnel, once part of the route used by the Plymouth, Devonport and South Western Junction Railway. The tunnel is no longer in use but remains a notable piece of infrastructure beneath the surface. A group known as the Friends of Devonport Park is active in supporting the park’s upkeep and community involvement.
